Navigating Christmas with my Little Muslim

We grew up in the west, in Canada. From a very young age, we were surrounded by Christmas trees, eggnog, gifts and a whole ton of Panettone (Italian Christmas bread that my dad would bring home from his Italian boss).  Christmas time was slightly disheartening for me. Because we did not participate. I felt left out. We didn’t do a tree, or presents, or take a picture with Santa, or get matching PJs. What we did do was we gave gifts to our celebrating friends. Facets of November 2019 ~ Monthly Digest

Ever since I turned 30, November has become this sort of looming cloud of confusion.  I was always a birthday freak. I loved celebrating my birthday! I welcome it all. This is a huge change for me. I have really started to come into my own lately. Which is a relief, because not feeling comfortable in my own skin was becoming comfortable – how…

This is a first. Another facet of my life is going to begin next week.  I am going to send my one and only child, my baby bear, my babacakes, to school. Junior Kindergarten is his first foray into a structured learning environment.  He knows not what he’s in for. Junior Kindergarten will have it’s unique challenges. He’s been taken care of by his grandmother, so it’s going to be very new to him. Having said that, I have literally been prepping for the first day of school for the last 6 months. We have really hammered it home that…
